The U.S. commercial gaming industry achieved remarkable success in 2024, setting a new revenue record of $72 billion, which represents a 7.5% increase from 2023. This marks the fourth consecutive year of record-breaking performance for the industry.

The growth was primarily driven by the expanding iGaming and mobile sports betting sectors. Notably, 28 out of 38 states with commercial gaming reached new annual revenue records, with North Carolina and Vermont reporting their first commercial gaming revenue following the launch of mobile sports betting.

The industry’s economic impact extended beyond operator revenues, contributing $15.9 billion in tax revenue to state and local governments—an 8.5% increase from the previous year. Sports betting showed particularly strong growth, with revenue increasing by 24.8% to $13.78 billion, while Americans legally wagered $149.9 billion on sports throughout the year.

iGaming continued its impressive upward trajectory, with revenue from seven active states reaching $8.41 billion—a 28.7% year-over-year increase. Rhode Island’s entry into the market in March 2024 contributed $26.3 million to this total.

Despite some economic challenges, including potential impacts from tariffs that could increase the Consumer Price Index to 3.6%, industry sentiment remains cautiously optimistic. Nearly half of casino executives anticipate accelerated revenue growth in the coming year, with over 40% planning to increase capital investments, particularly in hotel and food and beverage facilities.

With 492 commercial casinos operating nationwide, the U.S. gaming industry continues to demonstrate its significance as a major economic force, setting new benchmarks while contributing substantially to state and local economies.
