The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has reinforced its Advisory Board by appointing two distinguished experts—Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken and Marjolein Hoogland. Their appointments bring the Advisory Board back to full capacity, ensuring the group continues to provide valuable guidance to the regulator.
Prof. Dr. Franken, a full-time Professor of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam and head of the Centre for Addiction and Substance Research, brings extensive expertise in addiction and substance research, which is highly relevant to gambling regulation and responsible gaming initiatives.
Marjolein Hoogland, currently serving as the National Chief Advocate General of the Public Prosecution Service of the District Court of The Hague, has an impressive legal background, including previous roles as Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the same court. Her experience offers valuable insights into law enforcement, legal frameworks, and regulatory compliance.
The Advisory Board, led by Chair Anita Vegter, was established in 2014 and has played a key advisory role for the KSA, providing both solicited and unsolicited guidance on regulatory matters. With these new appointments, the Board is positioned to continue its influential work in shaping the Dutch gambling landscape.
Recently, the KSA issued warnings to three operators for breaching the Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prevention Act (Wwft), emphasizing the importance of strict compliance among licensees. While immediate enforcement penalties were not imposed, the regulator underscored the necessity for operators to adhere to existing laws and guidelines.
Overall, the addition of Franken and Hoogland enhances the Advisory Board’s expertise, supporting the KSA’s ongoing efforts to regulate the industry effectively and uphold integrity within the Dutch gambling market.
